Jazz Under the Stars returns to Lake Las Vegas

Vernell Brown Jr. returns to Southern Nevada 7 p.m. Saturday to bring his jazz quintet to Lake Las Vegas in Henderson for a free Jazz Under the Stars concert.

Brown, who recently toured Europe and the Middle East with Kenny Garrett, makes Las Vegas home when he's not traveling.

Brown will be backed by a stageful of top musicans, including drummer (and KUNV Radio host) John Nasshan; a second drummer, longtime Las Vegan Gary Powell; percussionist "Doc T" Roy Turner; and Bob Baker on bass. There will be special performances from vocalists Windy Karigianes and Brittany Brown.

Vernell Brown Jr. was a child prodigy. By his teens, Brown was discovered and signed with A&M Records.

Over the years, Brown has collaborated with a litany of jazz greats, including Benny Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Sample and Marcus Miller.
