Silverado grad vows to return to Olympics after failing to qualify in hammer throw
LONDON — UNLV track and field All-American and Silverado High alum Amanda Bingson made a promise Wednesday morning at Olympic Stadium.
“I am coming back (in 2016) with a vengeance,” she said of the games in Rio de Janeiro.
Bingson, making her Olympics debut, failed to advance from qualifying in the hammer throw, finishing 13th in her group and 28th out of 35 entrants overall.
Her best throw was 67.29 meters. Her personal best is 71.78.
“It was an intoxicating experience,” she said. “It’s extraordinary, mind-blowing, better than I even thought it would be. Surprisingly, I was more relaxed and calm than I thought I would be. I thought I would be a nervous wreck. I know I am more than capable of doing much better. I could have hit 70 meters today but didn’t produce. I’ll be back practicing for (2016) as soon as I get back to Las Vegas.”
Bingson has no collegiate eligibility remaining.
