Regional favorites sought

As I've often said, I continually learn from readers' requests. Taste of the Town readers have wide-ranging backgrounds and interests, which leads to requests for regional favorites, ethnic specialties and some old-fashioned foods that are tough to find these days. But requests have a tendency to back up, so let's clear a bunch of them this week.

Greg Franklin: supermarkets that carry breaded pork cutlets;

Jody Wiley: Lay's Original Light Potato Chips made with Olestra;

Pat Sifritt: Don Bruno Sherry Vinegar, which had been available at Smart & Final;

Joan Fritts: Southern-style pimento cheese spread;

Angie Ferrer: a bakery that makes New York favorites;

George Leaf: pickled peaches and spiced peaches;

Karla Nolan: Kinder Happy Hippo biscuit/cookies;

Earl Hoy: Mrs. Paul's frozen scallops;

Martha Schulman: Breyers Butter Almond Ice Cream;

Verna McFeely: Pappy's Seasoning for meat, fish and poultry, which she used to find in California;

Nancy Kinder: Brummel & Brown Creamy Fruit Spread in Simply Strawberry, which she used to find at Wal-Mart and at the commissary at Nellis Air Force Base;

Dee West: 100 percent tangerine juice;

Carmen Cuellar: local sources for Community Coffee and Mrs. Renfro's Habanero Salsa;

Kathy Carroll: a local bakery or store that will slice bread extra-thin;

Tom Reynolds: codfish and potato cakes;

Hazel Meckley: Silver Floss sauerkraut, which she used to get in Pennsylvania;

Marion Beal: Tones Seafood and Salmon seasoning;

Edith Gurdinski: powdered horseradish, "not wasabi";

Beth Stehlik: a local source for Czech or Polish food;

William Martino: Taco Bell boxed complete taco dinner kit, which he used to find at Vons and Wal-Mart;

Virginia Barron: pear preserves, jam or jelly;

Erin Neff: Rita's Water Ice from Philadelphia, which isn't shaved ice but "creamy and delicious and filled with fruit," and Yuengling Lager;

Karen Groberski: a restaurant, preferably in the Henderson area, that serves sweet and sour cabbage soup, and a chocolate-cake-and-vanilla-ice-cream roll, from the freezer of a local supermarket;

Larry DuCharme: Canadian pea soup, dry or canned;

And Leanne Schroer-Motz: reader recommendations for good Sicilian pizza, "medium crust, lots of cheese, zesty sauce, lots of meat ... not your regular N.Y. or Chicago pizza as available here."
