VIDEO: Pileup follows downpour on southbound U.S. 95

A string of accidents early Wednesday led to an 8½-hour closure of southbound U.S. Highway 95 near Eastern Avenue.

The Nevada Highway Patrol received reports of three jack-knifed tractor trailers shorty after 2 a.m. During the next hour, as many as 14 vehicles collided. The crashes were caused by drivers traveling too fast for the rainy conditions, a Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Three people were taken to University Medical Center, none with life-threatening injuries, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department. The highway reopened about 11:30 a.m.
