Driver flees scene of fatal crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol was searching for a driver who ran from the scene of a fatal crash Friday on the Las Vegas Beltway.

The man fled after his Chevrolet Tahoe rear-ended a Mini Cooper that had slowed for traffic on the northbound beltway at Sahara Avenue about 6:50 p.m., Sgt. Kevin Honea said.

The man driving the Mini Cooper was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in that car and a driver in one of the five vehicles caught in the chain-reaction crash were taken to UMC with injuries not considered life threatening, he said.

The Highway Patrol closed the northbound beltway for more than three hours during the investigation.
