UNLV golfer AJ McInerney named All-America Scholar

UNLV golfer AJ McInerney was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced this week.

The golfer, who was a senior last season, is one of 212 players to earn the honor in Division I this year. To be eligible student-athletes must have been a junior or senior academically at the 2015-16 season, competed in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, had a stroke average under 76 and maintained a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

McInerney, who had an average score of 73.24 as a senior, was also recently named to the Academic All-Mountain West team. He played in 10 tournaments for the Rebels last season, finishing in the individual top five on four occasions.

Over four years his career average score was 73.62.
