Road work to close Cheyenne Avenue this weekend

As part of the U.S. Highway 95 widening project, Cheyenne Avenue will be closed to traffic between Tenaya Way and Rainbow Boulevard beginning at 10 p.m. Friday. The closure will last until 5 a.m. Monday.

Traffic traveling in both directions on Highway 95 will be diverted off the freeway and then back on, using the Cheyenne ramps.

The Nevada Department of Transportation recommends following detour signs on Rainbow and Tenaya to access the freeway or travel east or west across it. Motorists who exit southbound Highway 95 at Cheyenne will be able to travel west. Motorists driving north on the freeway will be permitted to turn east.

The closure is due to the widening of the widening of the freeway and lengthening of the Cheyenne bridge. It is part of the department's project that stretches from Washington Avenue to Kyle Canyon Road. It ultimately will include a system-to-system interchange between Highway 95 and Interstate 215.

While the work between Washington and Kyle Canyon is expected to be completed by the end of the year, the entire project will not be finished until 2018.
