Joey DeFrancesco Trio playing Cabaret Jazz
April 20, 2012 - 9:08 am
When you think "jazz instruments," you probably don't think "organ." But Joey DeFrancesco does.
Considered the modern "Master of the Hammond B3 Organ," DeFrancesco brings his trio to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts' Cabaret Jazz tonight and Saturday.
DeFrancesco emerged on the jazz scene in 1989 - at the advanced age of 17 - with his debut album, "All of Me," which not only introduced DeFrancesco but resurrected the Hammond B3 as a viable jazz instrument. (DeFrancesco has been a Downbeat readers' poll award-winner annually since 2002.)
The Joey DeFrancesco Trio performs at 8:30 tonight and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday in Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave. Tickets are $42-$55 and are available by phone at 749-2000 or online at www.TheSmithCenter.com.
