State assemblyman charged with driving under influence

A Nevada state assemblyman from Las Vegas was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with driving under the influence.

Assemblyman Joe Hogan, D-Las Vegas, was stopped around 9:20 p.m. at 2208 Tam Drive, according to information released by Las Vegas police Friday.

According to Jay Rivera, a police spokesman, an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction and noted the driver, identified as Hogan, had the odor of alcohol, watery eyes and slurred speech.

The officer conducted a field sobriety test and noted Hogan, 75, appeared "wobbly," Rivera said.

Rivera said Hogan was taken to Las Vegas city jail, where a blood test a blood test was performed, the results of which will be available to authorities within five or six weeks.

Hogan did not answer a call to respond to the report.

According to the Assembly Democratic caucus website, Hogan was first elected in 2004 to represent Assembly District 10, which includes the Strip between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road.

During the 2011 legislative session, Hogan was on the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining and Ways and Means committees.

Hogan's current two-year term expires this year. He is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Jonathan Friedrich. Republican Timothy Farrell is campaigning for the seat too
