Dining pick of the week: Bread & Butter
April 23, 2012 - 11:20 pm
10940 S. Eastern Ave., 675-3300
Some believe the best part of a meal is the bread. Add a little butter, and you have a feast. Former Bouchon baker Chris Herrin knows this and has created a restaurant that pays tribute to dough. Start with the chewy bagels, including poppy seed, whole wheat, jalapeno cheddar, cinnamon raisin and sesame. There are croissants, macaroons, cookies, sticky buns, brownies, tarts and the Bread & Butter "Hostess Cupcake" with Italian meringue. Several breakfast items are Irish oatmeal, organic corn flakes with raisins, currants, apricots, strawberries, blueberries and banana chips, sourdough waffles, BLT grilled cheese and egg pizza (scrambled eggs, red skin potatoes, green bell peppers, caramelized red onion, mozzarella). Lunch includes mixed bean chili with French baguette, Caesar salad with roasted chicken, eggplant grilled cheese, pastrami on rye, chopped kale salad with sunflower seed vinaigrette, and Muffaletta sandwich layered with ham, capicola, salami, mortadella, provolone, mozzarella, Swiss, fontina and olive spread. Bagels start at $1.50 each and sandwiches at $6.25. Bread & Butter is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
