Smith Center announces summer lineup

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts has announced a summer line-up, set to kick off in June, that includes legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, jazz songstress Diana Krall, instrumentalist Chris Botti, the multi-talented Steve Martin and a variety of other performers.

Tickets to all performances go on sale Friday . Tickets to individual shows begin at $26 and can be purchased online at www.thesmithcenter.com or by calling 749-2000.

The summer season kicks off 7:30 p.m. June 10 in the Reynolds Hall with a concert by Broadway star Idina Menzel. Menzel won a Tony for her performance as Elphaba, the misunderstood green witch, in "Wicked" and received a Tony nomination for her role as Maureen in the "Rent."

Other performances include trumpeter Chris Botti at 8:30 p.m. July 6 in Reynolds Hall; CTA (California Transit Authority) featuring Danny Seraphine at 8 p.m. July 6 and 7:30 p.m. July 7 in Troesh Studio; k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang at 7:30 p.m. July 13 in Reynolds Hall;. and composer and lyricist Sondheim at 8 p.m. July 14 in Reynolds Hall.

More Reynolds Hall performances feature Krall at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13; Martin with the Streep Canyon Rangers at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22; and the Symphonic Rock Show at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24.
