Mortgage assistance workshop set for Saturday in Las Vegas

Housing counselors approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be available to speak with homeowners at a mortgage assistance workshop scheduled for Saturday at the Financial Guidance Center in Las Vegas.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center, formerly Consumer Credit Counseling Services, at 2650 S. Jones Blvd.

The workshop is being organized by the office of Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and the Nevada Affordable Housing Assistance Corporation. They said homeowners with a second mortgage and those who are currently unemployed or underemployed may be eligible for a piece of $196 million in federal mortgage assistance through the Nevada Hardest Hit Fund.

Homeowners must RSVP for this workshop by calling Reid's Las Vegas office at (702) 388-5020.

Attendees also must bring the following financial documents to apply for programs :

• Proof of income: Most recent tax return; latest pay stub, unemployment benefits or Social Security award letter (proof of SS); or profit-and-loss statement if self employed.

• Proof of assets: Most recent bank statement(s) - originals, not copies;

• Mortgage info: Most recent mortgage statement(s) for all home loans.
