Family organizes search for hiker in Red Rock Canyon

Family members are organizing a mass search in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas for a 46-year-old man who was last seen more than a week ago.

Darrell Kirk said Friday the effort will begin at 8 a.m. today near where his brother Ronald Kirk's vehicle was found in the rugged Calico Basin area west of Las Vegas. The search will include volunteers, horses and dogs.

Ronald Kirk sent a text message Jan. 16 or Jan. 17 saying it was a warm day and he was going hiking in Las Vegas.

Family members reported him missing Sunday.

Police have said they don't suspect foul play.
