Debate begins on New York-style pizza
January 25, 2012 - 2:02 am
Ah, 10 New Yorkers (or ex-New Yorkers), 15 opinions.
That's how my mail seems, anyway, after Bob Crawford asked for a New York-style pizza from a source besides Metro, adding, "the kind you can fold and have the oil dripping down your arm."
"Add this ... to the 100 other suggestions you get," emailed Steve Michaelson, putting in his vote for North End Pizza at 6440 N. Durango Drive. He was joined by Janice Alpern, but others begged to differ on "the best." Mamie Glorioso and Tony Fratt endorsed Verrazano at 240 S. Rainbow Blvd.; Laura Crowton, Verrazano at 4012 S. Rainbow Blvd.; Julie Zerbel, N.Y. Pizza & Pasta at 2400 S. Jones Blvd.; Zerbel and B. Jacobs, Broadway Pizzeria at 840 S. Rancho Drive and 8125 W. Sahara Ave.; Andrea Drasner, Mark Rich's New York Pizza at 7930 W. Tropical Parkway and 11710 W. Charleston Blvd.; Michele Bonelli, Cugino's at 4550 S. Maryland Parkway; Andrea McShane, Uncle Angelo's in Jerry's Nugget at 1821 Las Vegas Blvd. North; and Kevin Shea, Villa Pizza at 308 N. Boulder Highway in Henderson.
More to come, I feel sure. ...
For Sheila Figarsky, Karen Langbert emailed that Hebrew National Salami, sliced fresh in the deli, can be found at Bagel Cafe at 301 N. Buffalo Drive and Weiss Deli at 2744 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, and Kathy Miller found it at Deli Den at 6640 N. Durango Drive. Donna Alper emailed that the salami is available whole at Smith's at 10120 W. Tropicana Ave., "and if you take it to the deli counter they will slice it for you at no extra charge." ...
For Ed Rosten, who's looking for bisque tortoni, Zerbel emailed that while she doesn't know of a local source, the toasted-almond flavor at Vivido Gelato at 1000 S. Rampart Blvd. "tastes exactly like it."...
For Donna Achrem, Doris Weingart said champagne vinegar is available at Whole Foods Market. ...
