Latest DVDs, CDs, books: March 6

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week.

DVDS

"Immortals" (R): Greek mythology inspires another cinematic epic, this one about a power-crazed king (Mickey Rourke) running riot, leaving it to peasant Theseus (future "Man of Steel" Henry Cavill) to do battle for all mankind.

On a lighter note, "Footloose" (PG-13) reboots the 1984 original, as a city kid (Kenny Wormald) shakes up a small town with his penchant for shakin' it; Julianne Hough and Dennis Quaid co-star. Adam Sandler takes on a dual role in "Jack and Jill" (PG), playing a successful advertising guy -- and his abrasive twin sister. In the acclaimed first-love tale "Like Crazy" (PG-13), a British college student (Felicity Jones) falls for an American (Anton Yelchin), only to be separated from him when her U.S. visa expires. Antonio Banderas reunites with director Pedro Almodovar for "The Skin I Live In" (R), playing a plastic surgeon haunted by tragedy. And the documentary "Senna" (PG-13) profiles legendary Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna, who won three world championships before his death at age 34.

Turning to movies that never played local theaters, Steve Buscemi, Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro and Jennifer Beals team up for the offbeat comedy "The Search for One-Eye Jimmy" (R), while Selma Blair, Jason Lee, Beau Bridges and Giovanni Ribisi headline the thriller "Columbus Circle" (PG-13).

Topping today's TV-to-DVD transfers (all unrated): the PBS special "Human Nature Sings Motown," along with "Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season," "Above Suspicion, Set One," "MI-5: Vol. 10," "Tennessee Tuxedo And His Tales: The Complete Collection" and "Cimarron City: The Complete Series."

CDS

Bruce Springsteen, "Wrecking Ball": To quote iconic comedian George Carlin, "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."

One gets the sense that Bruce Springsteen might readily agree with a line like that based on his latest disc, "Wrecking Ball," a State of the Union Address in song form.

Bitter without being broken, angry without being resentful, "Wrecking Ball" is an album as forceful as its namesake.
