Bell leads Lady Rebels to fifth straight win

Junior guard Mia Bell scored a career-high 27 points to lead the UNLV women's basketball team to a 74-67 win over Texas-San Antonio on Tuesday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Lady Rebels (5-0) are off to their best start since opening the 2000-01 season with five straight victories.

UNLV led by as many as 12 points in the first half and was up 31-24 at halftime, only to see the Roadrunners rally.

Trailing 40-30 early in the second half, Texas-San Antonio went on a 17-6 run to take a 47-46 lead.

The Lady Rebels answered as Bell, a former Durango High standout, hit back-to-back baskets to ignite an 8-0 run, and UNLV led the rest of the way.

Jamie Smith finished with 19 points for UNLV. Lenita Sanford added eight points and six rebounds, and had her second straight four-block game.

Ashley Spaletta led UTSA (1-3) with 18 points.
