Henderson park opening after yearlong, $1.4 million revamp

Residents near Henderson's Silver Springs Park will find out what roughly $1.4 million in renovations looks like at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when the City Council hosts a reopening celebration.

Located off Silver Springs Parkway between Green Valley Parkway and Valle Verde Drive, the 6.8-acre, 20-year-old park next to James Gibson Elementary School and the Silver Springs Recreation Center has a new irrigation system, a new playground, a walking course, a lighted ball field, barbecue grills, covered picnic areas and restrooms.

"I'm told the park looks even better than it did 20 years ago," Mary Ellen Donner, director of the city's Parks and Recreation department, said in a statement.

The bulk of the funding for the nearly yearlong renovation, $750,000, came from the city's Utility Services department. Rebates offered by the Southern Nevada Water Authority accounted for more than $450,000, and $290,000 came from a residential construction tax.
