Charges against former candidate dismissed

CARSON CITY -- Battery charges against former secretary of state candidate Rob Lauer have been dismissed.

Court officials confirmed Wednesday that Lauer, a Republican, prevailed in an Oct. 26 trial before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson.

He had been accused by a supporter, Jennifer Von Tobel, of battering her during a June 4, 2010, campaign party in a restaurant. Lauer, however, maintained he only was trying to show Von Tobel some self-defense moves he learned as a military policeman.

The incident, however, was highlighted during his campaign against Secretary of State Ross Miller..

Spending much of his time defending himself against the battery charge, Lauer lost the race to Miller by 16 percentage points.
