Caesars Entertainment to host back-to-school fair
Caesars Entertainment is scheduled to a host a back-to-school fair at the Rio Pavilion, 3700 W. Flamingo Road, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
The event is open to the public and is set to feature games, a photo booth, face painting and vendors offering information on community resources and after-school activities.
Caesars Entertainment also will be giving out $10,000 in back-to-school supplies and offering discounted supplies for families.
Jamba Juice accepting donations
to promote literacy in schools
All Southern Nevada Jamba Juice locations will participate in the Bucks For Books campaign to raise money for the Public Education Foundation's Clark County READS program, which provides books to students. Jamba Juice will accept donations through Aug. 28 from customers and employees.
Free Back-To-School Immunizations offered in august
The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition has free immunization clinics for students scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Teamsters Local 631, 700 N. Lamb Blvd.; 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Del Sol High School, 3100 E. Patrick Lane; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Cashman Middle School, 4622 W. Desert Inn Road.
Parents should bring their child's shot records to the clinic. Nevada law requires that kids receive immunizations before enrolling in school. For more information, visit snicnv.org.
spread the word nevada hosting annual fundraising gala
Spread the Word Nevada is scheduled to host its 10th Anniversary Storybook Gala at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The Storybook Gala, "One Enchanted Evening," is the foundation's largest annual fundraising event. The event will feature silent and live auctions, prize drawings, entertainment and dinner.
Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit group that donates books to disadvantaged children to help them create home libraries. Since 2001, nearly 200,000 local students have received more than 1.7 million books. Individual seats are $250, and various sponsorship levels are available. School district seeking
scholarship funds for students
The Clark County School District is seeking local donors to help more students pay for college next year. Any businesses or individuals interested in providing scholarship funds for students are asked to call Kim Boyle of CCSD's Curriculum and Professional Development office at 799-8441 or Kelly Grimm of the Public Education Foundation at 221-7421.
Local graduates received nearly $150 million in scholarship offers this year, not including the Millennium Scholarship fund.

for architecture students
Three V Enterprises is accepting applications for the Student AquaTekture Design Competition and Scholarship. The scholarship is open to students enrolled in a college, university or vocational school. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1.
Three V Enterprises hosts the annual Global AquaTekture Visionary Awards that recognizes individuals and companies that use water creatively as a main architectural feature.
The scholarship "will be awarded to the student who demonstrates a promising future in integrative design or architecture and has a genuine interest in architecture, interior design, engineering, landscape design, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), product or (Computer-aided Design) relating to AquaTekture."
The winner will receive a monetary scholarship and other prizes, and the design will be showcased at the Global AquaTekture Visionary Awards. The monetary value of the scholarship was not available. For an application and guidelines, visit gavaawards.com.
online school Nevada Virtual Academy enrolling for fall
Nevada Virtual Academy, an online public charter school, is enrolling students for the 2011-12 school year.
NVVA offers curriculum for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. English, math, science, history, music and art courses are at the elementary and middle school levels. The high school program offers more than 200 core, elective and Advanced Placement courses, including foreign language.

Gibson Middle School principal named finalist for Principal of the Year
Principal Linda Archambault of Gibson Middle School, 3900 W. Washington Ave., was named a finalist for the National Middle School Principal of the Year by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Archambault will receive a $1,500 grant as a finalist that she will use to establish a mentoring program for at-risk students. The winner, to be announced in September, will receive an additional $3,500 grant.
Gehring Elementary School teacher receives national award
Fifth-grade teacher Pam Locascio of Gehring Elementary School, 1155 E. Richmar Ave., won the JASON Project's 2011 Hilda E. Taylor Award for Educator of the Year. Locascio is a Gifted and Talented Education specialist with more than 20 years of teaching experience.
The JASON Project, named for the mythological Greek hero, is a nonprofit group that supports science teachers and students and connects them with experts in the field. Hilda E. Taylor was a veteran JASON teacher who died Sept. 11, 2001, on board the American Airlines flight that crashed into the Pentagon.
