Latin music sizzles at Las Vegas festival Saturday

"Latin Sizzlefest," featuring performances by Lenny Lopez and arrangements by Latin Grammy nominee Cocho Arbe and Nathan Tanouye, will be presented Saturday at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The event is the inaugural celebration of Carolyn Freeman's new nonprofit organization, American Jazz Initiative. Freeman is a former Broadway star and the widow of famed jazz composer Russ Freeman.

"Sizzlefest" events, highlighted by the concert at 3 p.m., will include other musical performances, dance instruction, food and other activities from 1 to 5 p.m.

Lopez started performing professionally at the age of 12 and has spent more than 30 years with various versions of the band Santa Fe, now called Santa Fe & The Fat City Horns.
