HORSE RACING
April 23, 2011 - 1:15 am
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $38,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Averoo - Runs first time for a price tag in the U.S.; saves all the ground inside, should carve out a nice trip.
4 Red Alert Day - Not concerned with class rise because he has a lot of back class; last was a good confidence booster.
Long Shot - 7 Asperity
Race 2 - 7 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 B Thoughtful, Fillies and mares, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
4 Lady Railrider - Like a horse that won in last and ran a much slower Beyer speed figure; has lots of room to improve.
5 Ultra Blend - Hasn't done much wrong lately despite the gaps in her resume; her synthetic record is outstanding.
Long Shot - 6 Chalula One
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 NTRA, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
2 On My Honor - Just missed last time with a big late rally; exits a bullet workout where he could show more early speed.
9 What a Rush - Solid try last time off a 7-month hiatus; if he moves forward a step, and not regresses, has a big shot.
Long Shot - 7 Kingpin Ryno
Race 4 - 7 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 Tiznow, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
9 Amazombie - He is an open-graded stakes winner; facing Cal-breds, this is a distinct drop in class, clearly the one to beat.
2 Quick Enough - He has the resume to excel here; the main fear is the quick turn around of 4 weeks since the Dubai race.
Long Shot - 10 Sanger Silver
Race 5 - 7 furlongs, $70,000 Grey Memo, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
9 Master Chef - Has improved dramatically since the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer took over; well spotted for black type.
10 Liberal Arts - Logical chalk won a monster MSW in last; the key is whether he bounces or follows it right back.
Long Shot - 3 Sammy's a Runnin'
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, $70,000 Warren's Thoroughbreds, Fillies and mares, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
8 Melbisha - Like the turn back in distance from route to elongated sprint; parking lot posts are a positive angle too.
5 Subpoena the Dress - Logical chalk off improved races for A.C. Avila; key will be the final furlong on the stretch out.
Long Shot - 6 Carrie Rose
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 NTRA, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
3 He's So Stylish - Big trainer change to the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; expect improvement, enough to beat these.
4 Awesome Indy - Made a winning move at 88/1 before losing to the good Tiz a Budman; moves from post 11 to 4 this afternoon.
Long Shot - 6 Nofty
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, $125,000 Melair, Fillies, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
9 Halo Dolly - Shown steady improvement under the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; should see a quick pace to chase.
8 Miles Rules - Suspect the favorite should be the speed of the speed; Joel Rosario has to win this on the front end.
Long Shot - 4 Screaming Regal
Race 9 - 1 1/8th miles, $150,000 Snow Chief, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
6 Offlee Wild Boys - Draw a line through the Big Cap and his resume looks fine; offers a lot of value at 6/1 odds.
3 Thirtyfirststreet - Was thrown to the wolves in his last 2 starts; this is much easier, Doug O'Neill adding blinkers on.
Long Shot - 2 Chiloquin
Race 10 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $60,000 Alphabet Kisses, Fillies and marees, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 Running Isabella - Like the turn back in distance from route to sprint; figures to finish a lot better in here.
2 Alala - Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; had a perfect trip in last and still lost, must do more to win.
Long Shot - 4 Dot's Mark
Best Bet - 3 He's So Stylish (race 7)
Hollywood Park Thurday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$30.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$7.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Park Final Totals - 1,151/316/$2,064.80; Long Shots, 573/89/$861.60; Best Bets, 66/29/$115.70
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - 2 Cal Nation (2/1) in race 9 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Craven Caden ran out at Gulfstream Park. Stats - 66/46/$362.60
