Readers corral barbecue sauce

Open Pit barbecue sauce -- so beloved of Midwesterners -- is tough to find in Las Vegas, especially since a longtime reliable source, Smart & Final, stopped stocking it. But fellow readers have scoped out sources for Marsha Mekan.

First, Chris Wilson faxed that the Smart & Final at 10050 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson still has it. Also: Kathy Miller e-mailed that she found it at Glazier's Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road and Larry's Great Western Meats at 420 S. Valley View Blvd., Tina Johnson reported finding it at Dollar Tree at 3665 S. Rainbow Blvd. and sometimes at 99 Cents Only stores, Claudia Wolt reported finding it at Walmart and Paula Cook orders from Hard To Find Grocer at www. CrossroadsMarket.com. ...

For Eddie Carr, who's looking for bottarga, also known as "poor man's caviar," Jan Visser recommended www.IGourmet.com (or call 877-446-8763) or www.AquaGourmet.ca (or call 514-227-1120). ...

For Carmen Wood, who's looking for Jiffy yellow cake mix, Aaron Mantz e-mailed that it can be found at most Walmarts. ...

Mantz and Colleen Sams said Chester Kulaw can get chicken and turkey hot dogs at Albertsons. ...

And Mantz said John Bisci Jr. can find SeaPack frozen clams at Smith's. ...

Sams said Gerrie Washburn can get miso salad dressing in the refrigerated section of Albertsons at 2642 Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. ...

Louis Mondschein e-mailed that Bob Holzloher can find northern New Jersey Italian hot dogs at Villa Pizza at 3385 S. Durango Drive, adding, "Take it from another Jersey guy, it is as close to Jersey as you can get." ...

And for all those readers who have been looking for a local source for Pepperidge Farm breads, Susan Diamond says to give it up, because only the company's cookies and Goldfish are sold here. Her solution: Her mother brings some when she visits from New Jersey. ...
