Basia jazzing up Red Rock lounge

During the smooth jazz craze of the 1990s, the sophisticated voice of Basia was a welcome break from all the saxophone solos on the elevator-music radio format.

Even so, the Polish jazz singer remained on the outer cusp of fame in the United States, and her popularity seemed to dwindle with the number of radio stations dedicated to the format. Her 1994 gold album, "The Sweetest Illusion," was about the peak her U.S. fame.

After a long break said to be due to the deaths of family members and friends, Basia came back last year with "It's That Girl Again."

She sings at 10 p.m. Saturday in Rocks Lounge at the Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. Tickets are $23; call 547-5300.
