Magical Forest closure puts Opportunity Village in a bind

Opportunity Village estimates that it has lost more than $250,000 after the Magical Forest was forced to close for four days during recent storms.

The public is asked to donate at opportunityvillage.org to help the charity recoup its losses, even $10 would be appreciated, said Stephen Miller, special events manager for the nonprofit organization.

Opportunity Village, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., provides employment and vocational training for the intellectually disabled. The Magical Forest has become its major fundraiser. In good years, 150,000 people see the 3 million lights on the decorated Christmas trees, ride the carousel and visit Santa Claus.

The season has not ended for the Magical Forest. It will be open every night at 5:30 p.m. through Jan. 1.
