Man sentenced in 2008 North Las Vegas casino slaying

A 23-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 26 years to life in prison for the August 2008 slaying of a man outside the Fort Cheyenne Casino in North Las Vegas.

Mario Herrada-Gonzalez was convicted by a jury in July of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and armed robbery for the death of Melchor Aguilar-Bravo, 24.

Herrada-Gonzalez was sentenced by District Judge Douglas Herndon.

Herrada-Gonzalez told North Las Vegas police that two other men, who he identified as "Spooky and Shorty," shot the victim, according to court documents. Herrada-Gonzalez told police he wanted only to intimidate Aguilar-Bravo because he owed the defendant money.
