Pistons roll as blowout Saturday continues
July 10, 2010 - 7:01 pm
Austin Daye had 20 points as the Pistons improved to 2-0 this week with a 89-69 win over Golden State in the NBA Vegas Summer League on Saturday night.
DaJuan Summers added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Pistons, while fellow Georgetown alum Greg Monroe had 11 points and eight rebounds in the third consecutive blowout game at today’s session.
Reggie Williams had 16 points, and Andre Brown pulled down 11 rebounds for the Warriors.
Rebel coach makes appearance
Lon Kruger has yet to appear at the summer league this year, but two former UNLV coaches have now been in attendance.
Tim Grgurich was here as part of the Denver Nuggets staff both Friday and Saturday, and Bill Bayno is here tonight.
The well-traveled coach with the well-documented history of personal trouble off the court is one of the summer assistants for the Portland Trail Blazers.
They will be in action tomorrow, but Bayno was here tonight and looked right in his element smiling and shaking hands with just about everyone who walked by his seat in the roped-off section of the stands.
Sightings
Several members of the Golden State Warriors were here to watch their summer teammates play.
Anthony Morrow, Stephen Curry and C.J. Watson huddled in a corner of the gym to watch Golden State get dismantled by Detroit.
Morrow is an interesting case. The Warriors front office is currently believed to be making a decision on whether to match an offer sheet he signed with New Jersey.
Watson had added interest in the game.
His brother Kashif is playing for the Warriors summer team and hopes to get a shot in the NBA. The younger Watson did not play in the Golden State’s first game yesterday, but did see a few minutes tonight.
Both Watson brothers played at Bishop Gorman.
Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is here to watch his summer league team take on Houston in the final game of the day.
One of his star players, Jason Terry, is sitting on the far side of the arena.
Terry is the half-brother of former UNLV guard Jason Terry.
Famed women’s player and coach Nancy Lieberman is here to take in the action tonight. She became the first woman to coach a team in the D-League this season.
