Shoughro’s two goals power Rebels to win over VMI in women’s soccer

Ashleigh Shoughro scored her team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season, and three other Rebels added a goal each as the UNLV women's soccer team blanked Virginia Military Institute 5-0 in the Air Force Invitational in Air Force Academy, Colo., on Friday.
Shoughro, a senior, put the Rebels up 1-0 in the 13th minute on an assist from Colette Jepson. She added her second goal in the 49th minute on an assist from Katherine Orellana.
Amanda Forrester, Brittney Flores and Jenna Larken also scored for UNLV (7-3).
■ MEN'S SOCCER -- The Rebels, coached by Rich Ryerson, beat Mount St. Mary's, coached by older brother Rob Ryerson, 4-1 in the UNLV Rebel Classic at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Ricky Abrego scored one goal and had two assists for UNLV (3-4), and Stephen Sifuentes, Jonny Espinoza and Nick Marshall also had goals for the Rebels.
■ VOLLEYBALL -- The Rebels snapped a five-match losing streak by opening Mountain West Conference play with a victory, beating Air Force 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) at Cox Pavilion.
Three players had 10 or more kills for the Rebels (4-9, 1-0 MWC): Candice Thomas, 12; Sara Nehf, 11; and Makenzie Moea'i, 10. Amanda Alles and Stephanie Thelen combined to dish out 36 of UNLV's 41 assists.
■ WOMEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels went 10-0 in singles and added a 3-1 doubles mark on the first day of the three-day UNLV Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Jana Albers, Lucia Batta and Aleksandra Josifoska each went 2-0 in singles, and Nives Pavlovic, Adrien Hidvegi and Rumyana Terzieva went 1-0. Anna Maskaljun advanced by default.
The teams of Josifoska-Pavlovic, Batta-Hidvegi and Terzieva-Ella Bourchier won in doubles.
