Stern working to boost NBA finances
In a meeting with the press Tuesday in Las Vegas, NBA commissioner David Stern said he hopes the league can develop a plan to return to profitability.
Stern said less than half the league’s teams turned a profit last season.
It could be that Part One of the “Profitability Plan” was unveiled today at the NBA Summer League, where meals for the media have been cut from the budget.
A writer was walking into the hospitality room when he was immediately grabbed by the arm by a security guard.
“No media allowed,” the elderly security lady growled. “You need to leave.”
The NBA saved about $5 right there.
Meanwhile, sales seem to be brisk at the concession stands, where a bag of peanuts sells for the low, low price of $4.

Bucks win without Wade
In the Milwaukee Bucks’ 87-72 victory over the Chicago Bulls, Lorrenzo Wade was tagged with this dreaded line — DNP – Coach’s Decision.
It was the second time in four games that Wade has not gotten off the Bucks’ bench.
“In all honestly, I feel like I can contribute out there and should be playing,” said Wade, from San Diego State and Cheyenne High School. “But what do you do? It’s not my basketball team. You just smile and remain positive.”
For the record, he wasn’t smiling when he said that. Wade has played a total of 10 minutes in two games, scoring eight points.
