Cavs’ Harrison tossed after technical fouls

Anyone that thinks the NBA Summer League doesn’t mean anything hasn’t watched David Harrison of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The center from the University of Colorado picked up two technical fouls in Friday’s first game and was ejected in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers went on to lose the game 92-86 to the Detroit Pistons.

Harrison wasn’t the only player disqualified from the contest. Detroit’s DaJuan Summers, a rookie from Georgetown, picked up 10 personal fouls and was sent to the bench for the remainder of the game.

Former Gonzaga star, and 2009 first-round draft pick, Austin Daye had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pistons.

Jonas Jerebko added 19 points for Detroit.

Darnell Jackson had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Cleveland.

 NO LONGER NEEDED

Detroit wrapped up its Summer League schedule with a 4-1 record after Friday’s victory, so Daye started handing out souvenirs to the crowd.

As soon as the horn sounded, Daye tossed his jersey to a young fan sitting in the front row.

Daye then went back to the locker room with his teammates. When he returned, he signed his shoes and handed each one of them to a different child.

The young first-round pick will clearly need a full season in the NBA under his belt with some veteran leaders that will show him how to properly treat fans — by snubbing them and ignoring their requests for autographs and souvenirs.

ON DECK

The New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings square off in a star-studded Summer League battle.

The Knicks, of course, feature former UNLV star Wink Adams. The roster also includes Jordan Hill from Arizona, Toney Douglas of Florida State, and former Kentucky standout Joe Crawford.

Sacramento’s roster includes Tyreke Evans (Memphis), Donte Greene (Syracuse) and Jon Brockman (Washington).

Last year’s lottery pick, Jason Thompson, is also returning for his second stint in the Summer League.
