It’s all about the hugs

The highlight of my week? Reading to kindergarten kids on Monday. Elizabeth White’s class at Helen Herr Elementary School in North Las Vegas. It gave me my “kid fix," a connection to squiggly youngsters who make you laugh and love their enthusiasm and curiosity.
One little girl peppered me with questions about my earrings and clothes, obviously a future fashion journalist.
I read them a book written by the Review-Journal’s Mike Miller, one of his series on Tomás the Tortoise.
And they loved his book, especially when I challenged them to find the tortoise on every page, and they found sometimes it wasn’t easy. The devil in me made me use my fingers to cover the tortoise on one page, so the little ones started seeing a tortoise under water, which actually made sense.
My reward? The hugs. It’s all about the hugs.
If anyone asks you to partipate in a Reading Week program, it’s a mistake to be too busy.
