Governor’s new press secretary no insider

Today’s lengthy Washington Post feature on Robert Gibbs, likely to become the press secretary for Barack Obama, mentioned how close Gibbs is to the president-elect. "A huge asset that Robert has is that he's in the room with the president-elect," says Jake Tapper, ABC's senior White House correspondent. "He has his trust and his ear. He's not just a press flunky who gets handed a piece of paper with talking points."
Contrast that with Gov. Jim Gibbons’ new press secretary, Dan Burns. He not only won’t be in the same room most of the time, he won’t be in the same county.
Burns told the Review-Journal’s Ed Vogel that he will continue to live in Las Vegas and make frequent trips to the state capital, particularly during the 2009 legislative session. Guess Burns won’t be one of those “in the room” press secretaries. The insights he’ll have will come from cell phones and e-mails — when the governor has the time to get back to him. Press secretary No. 4 is a nice guy, but an insider? No way.
Guess Gibbons likes it like that.
