UNLV women net MWC tennis title

The UNLV women's tennis team beat No. 23 Texas Christian 4-2 Saturday in the title match at the Mountain West Conference Championships, played on the Horned Frogs' home courts in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Rebels dropped two of three completed doubles matches to fall behind 1-0, then won four of five completed singles matches.
Elena Gantcheva, ranked 34th, clinched the win with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) win over Nina Munch-Soegaard at No. 1 singles.
Kristina Nedeltcheva beat Macall Harkins 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Nikol Dimitrova routed Anna Sydorska 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, and Katy Williams beat Kewa Nichols 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.
UNLV will compete in the NCAA regionals May 9 and 10 at a site to be determined Tuesday.
• UNLV MEN'S GOLF -- At Tucson, Ariz., Eddie Olson shot a steady 1-under-par 70 in the final round of the Mountain West Conference Championships to win the individual title, but the Rebels slipped to fourth in the team standings.
Olson, who was under par in all three rounds, finished at 4-under 209, three strokes ahead of Colorado State's Riley Arp (70), Brigham Young's Robbie Fillmore (71) and San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg (70).
Colorado State made a huge move in the final round, shooting 6-under 278 to take the title after starting the day in fourth. The Rams finished at 2-under 850, four shots ahead of Texas Christian.
UNLV shot 8-over 292 to fall from third to fourth at 7-over 859.
The Rebels' Seung-su Han (73) and Brett Kanda (75) tied for 10th at 2-over 215.
• UNLV BASEBALL -- At Ogden, Utah, the Rebels got an RBI single from Derek Beuerlein in the ninth inning to beat Utah, 4-3.
Jesse Wight's two-run single in the eighth gave UNLV (19-22, 8-9 Mountain West Conference) a 3-2 lead, but Utah tied it in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an error.
Adam Moser (6-4) threw 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief to get the win.
• UNLV SOFTBALL -- At Provo, Utah, the Rebels tied Brigham Young in the top of the seventh inning, then gave up a run in the bottom of the inning to lose, 7-6.
Jaci Hull belted a two-run homer for the Rebels (23-34-1, 3-11 Mountain West Conference) to tie the game at 6. But the Cougars' Emi Willing reached on a fielding error leading off the bottom of the seventh, and she ultimately scored on a Monica Gonzales single.
• CSN BASEBALL -- The College of Southern Nevada swept a doubleheader from Salt Lake Community College, winning 3-0 and 2-0 at Morse Stadium.
In the opener, Cody Fierro, Kyle Bostick and Jeff Gonzales had RBI singles, and Tyler Lavigne threw a three-hit complete game.
In the second game, Brenton Van and Drew Leary combined on a five-hit shutout for the Coyotes (37-14, 26-10 Scenic West Athletic Conference).
• CSN SOFTBALL -- The Coyotes split a doubleheader with Salt Lake Community College, losing 7-0 and winning 5-1 at the Russell Road Recreation Complex.
In the second game, Priscilla Arzaga went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Coyotes (27-25, 22-18 Scenic West).
