WORKS OF ART
Fashion designers obviously spent some time studying art history for their spring collections. It's not hard to make a correlation between the inspiration and the fashion that followed. For an artful interpretation to your fashion, look to these spring takes on the masters.
PAINTERLY STROKES
Abstract Impressionist painter Robert Motherwell used dark colors to convey his primary message. Chloe designer Gabi Aghion looked to Motherwell for paintstroke inspiration on her Brushstroke dress. Pair it with Chloe's pointy cone heels found on the runway to complete the look.
EXPRESS YOURSELF
The Impressionist landscapes of Claude Monet found their way onto the runway, compliments of Fendi. Karl Lagerfeld found inspiration in the water lilypads of Monet's masterpiece. Keep this look modern with a pair of silver heels.
IN THE ABSTRACT
Neo-Dadist printmaker Jasper Johns, most famous for his rendition of the American flag, re-emerged this spring on the tunics and swimsuits at Emilio Pucci. Matthew Williamson turned to the bold printer strokes of Johns for his Falling Star collection. All you need is a pair of crisp, white shorts to let this work stand out.
EMBELLISH THIS
Gustav Klimt was known for his extravagant embellishments on his paintings. Missoni turned its zig-zags into a work of embellished art with its Clorinda mini-dress. A statement cuff with metallic heel makes this look stand out.
POP ART
The pop art stylings of Richard Phillips found a home with Jimmy Choo this spring. The shoe and handbag designer turned to the magazine-like works of Phillips to adorn purses that can make your hand a museum-quality work of art. Keep the rest of your look chic and simple to let your handbag do the talking.
