Truman Capote held what is known as the Party of the Century, also known as the Black and White Ball, in 1966 in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City to honor Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham. He dangled invitations in front of potential guests to create a buzz about who was in and who was out. The Nevada Ballet Theatre's Black and White ball only requires that guests have an invitation and wear black, white or some combination thereof. Much like the Academy Awards, Giorgio Armani found his fashions on the backs of the city's finest. The ballet recognized choreographer and dancer Twyla Tharp as its Woman of the Year as well.
