Silver State Bancorp taps presidential candidate’s son

Banks like to name prominent individuals to their boards of directors for obvious reasons.

So Silver State Bancorp's announcement on Thursday was not unusual.

The bank appointed Andrew McCain, 45, of Phoenix to its board. Silver State confirmed that the new director is the son of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

"As an experienced banker, Mr. McCain will bring a financial expertise to the Silver State board," a bank spokesman said. "He is imminently recognized in the community and will provide an invaluable contribution to the strategy and growth of Silver State Bank."

Andrew McCain is a director of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Choice Bank, which Silver State acquired and is merging into its flagship bank. He is chief financial officer of Hensley & Co., a beer distributor, and chairman-elect of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.

Silver State CEO Corey Johnson also announced the appointment of Mark Bosco, a partner in law firm Tiffany & Bosco.
