Slaughter unveils new exhibit on Saturday

The public is invited to meet artist Stanley Slaughter Jr. at 2 p.m. Saturday at a free opening reception for his exhibition at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Slaughter's solo exhibit, "Urban Sol: Chaos and Conformity," will feature original and digital prints, charitable artwork in support of the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, a live DJ set with underground violinist G'Note, and collaborative artwork by Dray.

Slaughter's work will remain on display through Oct. 14.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Grateful Dead founding member dies at 84

Phil Lesh, a classically trained violinist and jazz trumpeter who found his true calling reinventing the role of rock bass guitar as a founding member of the Grateful Dead, died Friday at age 84.
