Henderson, Las Vegas police looking for man who tried to steal ATMs
A man who tried to steal several ATMs and stole three vehicles Tuesday is believed to have crossed state lines into California after a 10-hour pursuit.
The first report of the suspect, described as a 30-year-old white man, came in about 6 a.m. after he tried to steal an ATM from a Walgreens at 401 N. Arroyo Grande Blvd., near Green Valley High School.
Police said the man backed a stolen Dodge Journey up to the store’s front doors, put chains around a freestanding ATM near the doors and pulled it out of the Walgreens. The ATM came to a rest after coming loose from the chains.
When officers arrived, the man fled south on North Stephanie Street before crashing the Dodge into a wall near Stephanie Street and Santiago Drive. A perimeter was set up in the surrounding area after he ran into a nearby neighborhood.
The man fled in a stolen 2006 gray Land Cruiser, leading police to Primm. The Land Cruiser was recovered just before 2:40 p.m., but a white Ford Fusion was stolen shortly afterward near Buffalo Bill’s. The suspect was headed to California on Interstate 15, Henderson police spokeswoman Michelle French said
Henderson police and the Metropolitan Police Department worked with the California Highway Patrol until about 4 p.m., when the active search ended because “we believe he made it out to California,” Henderson police spokesman Scott Williams confirmed.
Another ATM at the InTouch Credit Union, 4299 E. Sunset Road, also was hit Tuesday morning. French said the two burglaries might be connected.
The suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous, has brown hair and blue eyes and is believed to be 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans and gray and white sneakers.
No injuries were reported during the 10-hour active pursuit.
