Subaru of Las Vegas donates to Red Rock Search and Rescue

Findlay Automotive Group’s Subaru of Las Vegas continued its strong working relationship with Red Rock Search and Rescue April 12 when the dealership provided a donation of $14,433 to the group which provides invaluable help for people in need throughout the Southwest.

The donation was presented as part of Subaru’s Share the Love campaign that includes participation of Subaru dealerships throughout the country. More than $15 million is earmarked for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the National Park Foundation and more than 640 hometown charities throughout the nation.

The latest drive has resulted in more than $65 million being donated in the past eight years. As part of the campaign, buyers of Subaru automobiles designate which particular charity is the recipient of the cash award.

Subaru of Las Vegas is spearheaded by General Manager Burton Hughes, who has been with Findlay Automotive Group for 11 years.

“My son is a first responder as a firefighter engineer for North Las Vegas and I obviously am very proud of the work he does,” Hughes said. “I saw the relationship and the Subaru brand appeals to adventure seekers which include your hikers, bikers and mountain climbers and anyone else who loves the great outdoors.

“This sort of donation to a worthy cause gives us purpose beyond our daily responsibilities as members of this community.”

Hughes said Subaru of Las Vegas’s three-year involvement with Red Rock Search and Rescue has generated more than $25,000.

“This is why we come to work every day,” said Hughes. “We love being a part of our community and events like the one today exemplify that. “

West Tech students win Findlay/Cox-sponsored iChoose to Drive

A select group of Clark County School District students was honored for a stellar effort for winning the third annual iChoose to Drive campaign sponsored byFindlay Automotive Group and Cox Communications of Las Vegas.

Receiving a $1,000 check for winning the competition with a 30-second video entitled “Think Before You Text” were Andre Salehian (leader), Krishna Menon, Chris Ramirez and Lucie Arnold of West Career and Technical Academy.

WCTA teacher/mentor Kiplyn Sweikert received a South Point staycation package, while the school also received $1,000 cash from Cox and Findlay Automotive Group.

Cox Communications will use the “Think Before You Text” as the basis for a 30-second PSA on distracted driving to be aired on dozens of Cox channels during the remainder of the National Safety Council’s celebration of Distracted Driving Awareness month in April.

The PSA and video of the check presentation will continue to air on Cox Networks through June and be available via the Cox On Demand platform on Cox Channel 1860, as well.

The video required a dedicated effort on the part of the students, who not only created the message, but also produced and starred in the video.

“This project and video is a perfect example of the mission of West Career and Technical Academy,” said school principal Amy Rozar. “Students are practicing what they learned in class and simultaneously using industry-standard equipment and skills, while they also demonstrate their social awareness and care for their peers.”

Findlay Automotive Group also sponsors the Drive for Excellence campaign that awards one Clark County School District senior who is awarded a new vehicle from the Findlay umbrella of dealership for about 10 years.

“Findlay and Cox are both incredible partners with the Clark County School District,” said Cheryl Wagner, a coordinator the School-Community Partnership Program. “

Salehian, a 16-year-old junior at WCTA, said that there are so many dangers of texting and driving, and his group worked hard to convey the message.

“In total, we did about three hours of filming and three hours of editing,” explained Salehian, a native Las Vegan. “The hard thing is that we were trying to film on the street near Red Rock, so we needed somewhere that wasn’t full of traffic. Even though it’s only 30 seconds, we had to go over the video several times.

“As a group, we’re very proud of what we accomplished.”

The presentation was held at Findlay Kia at 5325 W. Sahara Ave.
