Adelson named Nevada Hotelier of the year

The Nevada Hotel & Lodging Association will honor Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson as the Nevada Hotelier of the Year during the organization’s awards gala in May.

In a statement, Van Heffner, president of the association, said Adelson is being honored not only for his accomplishments in building the Venetian and Palazzo resorts, but for surviving the economic issues the hotel-casino industry has faced over the past two years.

“The hospitality industry faced many challenges in 2009, but no one stood up to those challenges and positioned his company for future success better than Sheldon Adelson,” Heffner said. “Over the years he has played an important role in the success of Las Vegas and he is extremely deserving of this award.”

In addition to its two Strip resorts, Las Vegas Sands operates properties in Macau and Bethlehem, Pa. The company will have a soft opening for the $5.5 billion Marina Bay Sands in Singapore of April 27. The resort will fully open in June.
