Fire causes ‘limited’ damages to Venetian Macau apartment building

A fire Thursday morning at the Las Vegas Sands’ under-construction high-end apartment building that is connected to the Four Seasons in Macau won't be mistaken for the Monte Carlo blaze that took place on the Strip a year ago.
Black smoke emanated above the Cotai Strip from the 25th floor of the high-rise structure that is located behind the Venetian Macau and the Four Seasons. But the fire was quickly extinguished.
“We don’t know the extent of the damages but we believe they were limited,” said Las Vegas Sands spokesman Ron Reese.
The fire was not reported by any Macau or Hong Kong media outlets, but in a report circulated by Macquarie Capital gaming analyst Joel Simkins. The report also included some photos of the smoke coming from the building.
“As if Las Vegas Sands has not had enough to deal with, we believe this additional event will cause another setback in the company’s plan to move Macau visitation to its newly developed Four Seasons property,” Simkins said in a note to investors.
Reese said the company’s investor’s relations office had no inquiries from investors about the construction fire.
