Gaming attorney writes oral history book

Gaming attorney Bob Faiss has been practicing gaming law long before anyone knew what the term meant.

Faiss, 74, who was profiled in the Las Vegas Business Press this week, recently completed an oral history book, "Gaming Regulation and Gaming Law in Nevada."

He will be part of the 50th anniversary of the Nevada Gaming Commission, hosted by the Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on March 30.

When he began his legal career 37 years ago, Faiss and former Gov. Grant Sawyer were pretty much Nevada's only two gaming attorneys. Much has changed in the past four decades as gaming has expanded across the United States and throughout the world.

"If you examine any list of those perceived to be the gaming law leaders, the list, with some notable exceptions, would be very similar to what it was 10 years ago."

Faiss and the gaming law team at Lionel Sawyer & Collins, will be coming out this year with its fourth edition of Nevada Gaming Law, which is an authoritative guide on gambling laws and regulations in the state.
