MGM Grand Detroit president resigns
The Detroit Free Press reported this morning that MGM Grand Detroit President Lorenzo Creighton had resigned.
Crain's Detroit Business reported that Creighton was leaving to become CEO of Gateway Casinos, a Vancouver company that manages nine casinos in Canada. Creighton didn't return calls for comment. Neither did officials at Gateway.
MGM Resorts International spokeswoman Yvette Monet confirmed the resignation to the Free Press.
Creighton moved to the MGM Grand Detroit in March 2008 after serving as president of the New York-New York. Creighton was the first African American to lead a property on the Strip.
Creighton also served as president of the Flamingo and he helped establish the gaming industry in Mississippi.
Last year, the MGM Grand Detroit generated $548 million in revenues, most of any Detroit casino, according to figures from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
