MGM Resorts surfaces as developer of sixth casino in Maryland

MGM Resorts International has surfaced — according to the Washington Post and other media outlets — as the potential developer and operator of a sixth casino in Maryland that would be located in Prince George’s County.

According to the newspaper, MGM Resorts executives are expected to meet Friday with Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and a legislative leader.

O’Malley has indicated that he may call lawmakers back to Annapolis the week of July 9 for a special session on expanded gambling. One of the proposals under consideration by an ongoing work group is authorizing a new casino at National Harbor or nearby.

The plan to add a sixth casino in Maryland is vigorously opposed by the Cordish Companies, the owner of Maryland Live! in Anne Arundel County, which opened this month.
