Culinary plans informational picket line at Cosmopolitan

Culinary Local 226 is planning its first informational picket line on the Strip in more than a decade today when workers will protest the lack of a contract at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

In a statement, the union said it will place informational pickets in front of the hotel-casino from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

In an email, Culinary spokeswoman Yvanna Cancela said the union and Cosmopolitan owner Deutsche Bank have been negotiating a contract for 18 months "without progress."

The Culinary, which represents hotel and restaurant workers at most of the major Strip hotel-casinos, is seeking a contract from The Cosmopolitan that addresses health care costs, wages and includes language on job security.

In an emailed statement, the hotel-casino said, "We understand that it is the union's right to picket. The Cosmopolitan has been negotiating in good faith and will continue to do so."
