MGM Resorts plans celebration of its work force diversity
MGM Resorts International employees will take over the Mandalay Bay Events Center later this month for a Strip-style production to celebrate the casino operator's work force diversity.
The company, which operates 10 Strip resorts and employs more than 50,000 workers at resorts in Nevada, Mississippi, Michigan and Illinois, will feature 70 of its employees in "Inspiring Our World," an original music program spanning multiple cultures and styles.
The 90-minute production, simultaneously performed in English, Spanish and American Sign Language, will be digitally represented in 14 languages. The program is part of the company's corporate diversity program, a series of workshops to help employees understand diversity in the workplace.
MGM Resorts annually produces a report showing the company's commitment to and results in corporate diversity. It was the first gaming company to produce such a report.
"Inspiring Our World," which has been a year in the making, was created by employees for employees.
The production draws from employees' hidden talents such as a receiving dock worker who plays electric violin and a purchasing executive who was once a professional singer. In September, auditions attracted more than 200 workers.
The program was produced after months of script writing, choreography and rehearsals. Nine performances will take place Dec. 16-18.
