BOSTON — Las Vegas-based companies are among many who are doling out millions trying to sway the minds of lawmakers on Beacon Hill, a flood of spending that continued even after a casino deal between Gov. Deval Patrick and House Speaker Robert DeLeo collapsed last summer.

Casino player cards represent a growing number of fraud cases in Las Vegas, as hackers target the popular programs and casinos’ customer databasesto gain access to customers’ personal information or steal points. The problem has become serious enough that the Nevada Gaming Control Board sent a letter in December reminding casino companies of their obligations to protect customer information and periodically review their database security.
Poker player Annie Duke will the commissioner of a new professional poker league that begins play later this year in Las Vegas. The brainchild of Duke and former World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack is geared toward the big names on the professional poker circuit.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opened in December to generally rave reviews from critics, locals and tourists alike.
What stood out to most of them, however, were not the upscale restaurants and boutiques, one-of-a-kind bars or a swimming pool overlooking the Strip. It was a three-story chandelier within the casino that has become the hotel’s main attraction.
Station Casinos Inc., which employs almost 12,000 people at 18 properties in Southern Nevada, will hire 1,000 employees over the next couple of months as it increases its staffing levels to match improving economic conditions.
