Wynn Las Vegas said to breach law

A hearing officer says Wynn Las Vegas violated federal labor law when it fired a union leader last year.

The administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board said in a ruling filed this week that Wynn targeted dealer Ronda Larson because she was notably active in the Transportation Workers Union.

Larson was a longtime casino employee when she was fired in September 2009 after she helped organize for the union.

Wynn managers say Larson was terminated because she was rude and insubordinate. The company says it did not break any laws.

The ruling states Larson had not behaved inappropriately and that the casino was simply looking for an excuse to fire her.

The officer ordered the company to give her back her job.

Wynn Resorts Ltd. signed a collective bargaining agreement with the Transport Workers Union in November that covers dealers at Wynn Las Vegas for the next 10 years.

The contract, which dealers overwhelmingly approved earlier, put an end to almost four years of negotiations between management and union representatives.
