The U.S. secretary for housing and urban development plans a trip to Nevada next week to explore ways to open up new refinancing opportunities for distressed homeowners.
State Treasurer Kate Marshall has scheduled a joint appearance with Secretary Shaun Donovan at a round-table discussion Monday with local officials in Reno. A news conference is to follow at 10 a.m. at the Nevada Association of Realtors office.
Marshall says they'll discuss a series of refinancing proposals before Congress.
President Barack Obama visited Reno in May to meet with a family he said had benefited from executive action he took making it easier to refinance mortgages.
Nevada had the worst foreclosure rate nationally for four consecutive years before dropping in recent months behind Georgia and Arizona.
