Skye Canyon developers announce deals with major home builders

A major master plan in northwest Las Vegas hit a milestone Thursday.

Developers of Skye Canyon, a 9,000-home community planned at U.S. Highway 95 and Fort Apache Road, announced deals with two big home builders on 80 acres at the 1,700-acre site.

Officials with Olympia Cos. said they’ve inked deals with Woodside Homes and Pulte Homes to build at Skye Canyon.

Neither builder shared details on how many homes they would build, but both said they were happy to be part of the first large-scale local master plan to break ground since the recession.

“Pulte is excited to bring its innovative consumer-inspired home designs to this fantastic community that offers homebuyers a wonderful lifestyle,” said Ryan Breen, president of Pulte’s Las Vegas division. “Skye Canyon will offer Pulte homebuyers a robust and active, outdoor lifestyle in a great location.”

Added Mike Casey, director of sales and marketing for Woodside Homes of Nevada: “We are excited to be one of the first builders in Skye Canyon, in the coveted northwestern area of Las Vegas. With our ability to build a home based on our buyers’ needs and wants, we are a natural fit for this development and we’re confident we will have a home design that will fit anyone, especially those looking to incorporate the active lifestyle of this community.”

Olympia Chairman and CEO Garry Goett said at a June ground breaking that homes at Skye Canyon would have floor plans unique to the community. He also said prices at the community would range from $200,000 to $600,000.

The community, near Mount Charleston, will have community parks and a system of hiking and biking trails. The developers are preparing land for commercial and gaming use. Additional builders should be announced soon, with models scheduled to open in fall 2015.
