LVCVA adds new partnership; Goodman’s contract renewed

It was a busy day for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Acting Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Ken Hyatt visited the board Tuesday and signed a trade promotion partner memorandum of agreement with Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins, chairman of the convention authority board, and the authority’s president and CEO, Rossi Ralenkotter.

The document signing was in recognition of a new partnership between the authority and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.

The partnership brings together the expertise of both organizations to help Southern Nevada businesses work to strengthen Nevada tourism and increase the U.S. market share of worldwide travel.

Separately, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman received a two-year contract extension as an independent contractor with the authority, for his services as chairman of the host committee. Goodman will receive $60,000 a year as part of his contract.

The authority also is proceeding with its plans involving Sierra Vista Drive. Apartment buildings at 552, 560 and 594 Sierra Vista Drive will be demolished at a cost of $975,839, paid to Martin-Harris, a Las Vegas-based construction company.

In all, 17 buildings will be demolished over a 90-day period.

The authority is demolishing the buildings to clear the land for future convention staging or possible construction as the Las Vegas Global Business District project progresses.

An additional $150,000 will be paid to Terracon Consultants for third-party abatement oversight.
